Equestrian Finishes Fourth
PAXTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's equestrian team finished fourth in a field of 10 teams at their fourth show of the season, hosted by Becker at their facility on Saturday.
Four Corsairs finished first. Chelsey O'Brien was first in novice fences, Hayley Paige was first in the walk trot canter division, and Michaela Frontiero and Marena Bach were also first in the walk trot division.
Three UMass Dartmouth riders placed third-Kerin Devine in novice flat and intermediate fences, Katie Donohue in novice flat, and Laura Macumber in advanced walk trot canter. Melissa Feld finished fifth in the novice fences division.
"It was great that we came in fourth, since we were missing riders in both open divisions and in an intermediate flat division," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Meredith Arden. "Because we were missing riders in those divisions, we automatically lost the points to get ahead of some other teams who had riders in all divisions. Finishing fourth was huge, because we dominated the divisions we did have riders in. Everyone really tried hard in practice and the payoff was blue ribbons in just about half of the classes we entered."
The Corsairs return to action Saturday at Roger Williams' show, which will be held at Glen Farm in Portsmouth, RI. Arden expects a good showing next weekend, when freshman Emily White (Westport, MA) returns from individual equestrian competitions to compete for the Corsairs.
