NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. — The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth will host the 2014 Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Region 1 Zone 1 Regional Finals at its home riding facility, Claddagh Farm in Tiverton, R.I., beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 29.
"The UMass Dartmouth Equestrian Team is proud to host the Region 1 Zone 1 Regionals Finals this year at our home facility," Head Coach Mary Charette said. "This is the team's first time hosting Regionals and are pulling together to get the facility show ready."
Assumption College, Becker College, Brown University, Clark University (Mass.), Colleges of the Holy Cross, Johnson & Wales University (R.I.), Rhode Island College, Roger Williams University, Salve Regina University, and the University of Rhode Island will join the Corsairs in the 11-team field.
The riders are scheduled to compete in eight classes with an awards ceremony following each respective event. The top-two riders in each event will advance to the Zone 1 Finals at Mount Holyoke College on April 5.
UMass Dartmouth has four riders competing in the Regionals this weekend; freshman Kira Hallberg (Foxboro, Mass.), classmate Sarah Kieran (Plympton, Mass.), sophomore Alexandra Koury (Holden, Mass.), and sophomore Colleen Waclawk (Millis, Mass.). Kieran recently captured the Cacchione Cup for Region 1 this past weekend, earning automatic qualification into the Zone Championships in Harrisburg, Pa. between May 1 and May 4, 2014 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex.
