Equestrian Takes Second at Home Show

TIVERTON, R.I. - The UMass Dartmouth equestrian squad placed reserve champion at its home show on Saturday, placing behind the winners, Brown University, by only one point.

Four Corsairs had event wins while the full team posted strong individual showings. Freshman Olivia Van Der Meer (Medway, Mass.) took the win in over fences, while also placing second in the open flat. Senior Colleen Waclawik (Fairhaven, Mass.) placed first in on the flat in intermediate, and also finished fourth in over fences. Junior captain Jillian Ruyffelaert (Northampton, Mass.) won her over fences event and placed fifith on the flat. Freshman Shelby Cunningham (Mattapoisett, Mass.) closed the day, winning her class in walk trot canter.

Also in the walk trot canter, freshman Nicole Ineson (Maynard, Mass.) finished third while classmate Erin Parelli (Mohawk, N.Y.) placed fifth. Senior captain Erin Robinson (Medway, Mass.) placed fifth on the flat in novice, while junior Natasha Zuzarte (Tiverton, R.I.) took third in fences and sixth on the flate in intermediate. Alexandra Koury (Holden, Mass.), also in intermediate, placed sixth on the flat, whiloe Kira Hallberg (Foxboro, Mass.) finished fifth on the flat.

UMass Dartmouth equestrian will compete next on Nov. 7 at Mystic Valley Hunt Club in Glades Ferry, Conn. at a show hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
