GALES FERRY, Conn. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth equestrian team took home sixth place on Saturday at the IHSA show hosted by University of Rhode Island, held at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club.
How it Happened
Three Corsairs stood out in their events on Saturday, including sophomore Michaela Kessel (Haverhill, Mass.), freshman Sage Bauman (Sterling, Mass.) and senior captain Nicole Ineson (Maynard, Mass.). Kessel qualified for IHSA Regionals for the second time this season after her second-place finish in her novice flat class. Kessel will be riding in both intermediate over fences and novice flat in Regionals this coming spring. Bauman took the blue ribbon in her advanced walk trot canter class for her first top finish on her IHSA career. Ineson gave UMass Dartmouth their second first-place ride of the day, winning her beginner walk trot canter class.
Sophomore Lyndsey Getchell (Dartmouth, Mass.) placed sixth in her novice flat class. Freshmen Kayleigh Sauyet (Andover, Conn.) and Amanda Read (Seekonk, Mass.) both placed in their classes. Sauyet placed fourth in her novice flat class and fifth in her novice over fences class, with Read taking fourth in her walk trot class.
Next week, the Corsairs will be competing in two IHSA shows to conclude the fall season. UMass Dartmouth will be first competing in the IHSA show hosted by Johnson and Wales University at the JWU Equine Center in Rehoboth, Mass. on Saturday, Nov. 18th, followed by a show at Four Winds Farm in North Oxford, Mass. on Sunday, Nov. 19, hosted by Assumption.
