PAXTON, Mass. -- The UMass Dartmouth equestrian team earned its second reserve champion finish of the season on Saturday afternoon, as the Corsairs tied for second place at the 11-team Becker IHSA Horse Show at the Becker Equestrian Center.
Senior Olivia Van der Meer (Medway, Mass.) claimed the top spot in the open flat while finishing fifth in the open fences for UMass Dartmouth, which received second place performances in the intermediate fences and novice flat from freshman Devon Frasca (Millis, Mass.). Freshman Casey Bigelow (Princeton, Mass.) was second in the intermediate flat and fourth in the intermediate fences for the Corsairs, who received a third place finish in the walk/trot from sophomore Kamori Porter-Jacques (Bellingham, Mass.).
Sophomore Elizabeth Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) placed fourth in the advanced walk trot canter for UMass Dartmouth, which received fifth place finishes in the novice flat from sophomores Kayleigh Sauyet (Andover, Conn.) and Mikayla George (Dracut, Mass.). Senior Nicole Ineson (Maynard, Mass.) and junior Michaela Kessel (Haverhill, Mass.) posted respective sixth place performances in the advanced walk/trot/canter and open fences for the Corsairs, who also received a seventh place finish in the novice flat from junior Lyndsey Getchell (Dartmouth, Mass.).
UMass Dartmouth enters next Saturday’s home IHSA Show in Rehoboth, Mass. atop the Association’s Region 1 standings.
