Equestrian Enjoys Success At Rhode Island, UMass Dartmouth Horse Shows

MYSTIC, Conn./REHOBOTH, Mass. --  The UMass Dartmouth had a busy and successful weekend of competition, as the Corsairs placed fourth at the Rhode Island IHSA Horse Show on Saturday afternoon at the Mystic Valley Hunt Club before posting a tie for first with Rhode Island College at their home show Sunday afternoon at Claddagh Farm.

Sophomore Kayleigh Sauyet (Andover, Conn.) and senior Baylee Curley (Duxbury, Mass.) posted respective wins in the novice fences and beginner walk trot at Rhode Island, while sophomore Mikayla George (Dracut, Mass.) was second in the novice flat.  Freshman Casey Bigelow (Princeton, Mass.) registered third place performances in the intermediate flat and intermediate fences on Saturday for UMass Dartmouth, which received a third place finish in the walk trot from sophomore Kamori Porter-Jacques (Bellingham, Mass.).  Senior Nicole Ineson (Maynard, Mass.) recorded a fourth place finish in the advanced walk trot canter for the Corsairs, who received a pair of fifth place performances in the novice fences and intermediate flat from freshman Devon Frasca (Millis, Mass.) along with a sixth place finish in the open flat from senior Olivia Van der meer (Medway, Mass.).

Sauyet qualified for the IHSA Regional Championships after finishing second in both the novice fences and novice flat in Sunday’s home competition, as Van der meer added a pair of first place performances in the open fences and open flat.  Frasca added top finishes in both the intermediate flat and novice fences for UMass Dartmouth, while Bigelow added a second place finish in the intermediate flat and placed fourth in the intermediate fences.  Ineson and Porter-Jacques recorded respective third and fourth place performances in the advanced walk trot canter and walk trot canter for the Corsairs, who received fifth place finishes from George in the novice flat, senior Shelby Cunningham (Mattapoisett, Mass.) in the advanced walk trot canter and junior Lyndsey Getchell (Dartmouth, Mass.) in the novice flat.

UMass Dartmouth closes out its fall schedule next Saturday morning by heading to North Oxford, Mass. to compete at the Assumption IHSA Horse Show along with Brown and Salve Regina.
