HANOVER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's equestrian team finished fourth in a field of 11 teams at their third show of the season, hosted by Boston University at the Holly Hill Stables on Sunday.
Senior Shayla Fielder (Longmeadow, MA) finished first in the walk trot canter division with a finish that qualified her for regional competition.
Beginning walk trot canter rider Katharine Donohue (So. Beverly, MA) finished first for the second meet in a row. Senior Samantha Alfred (Attleboro, MA) was first in her intermediate division jumping competition and second in flat competition. Senior Alana Therrien (Burlington, VT) finuished first in flat competition with what was described as a soft, following ride, while junior Kerin Devine (Hanover, MA) finished first in jumping competition with what was described as a flowing ride. "She had the most moving course," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Meredith Arden. "The sun shone, and the stars aligned."
Junior Megan Clark (Falmouth, MA) finished second in her open flat competition, while senior Amy Mason (Halifax, MA) was second in her intermediate class jumping competition. Freshman Katelyn Dudley (Millville, MA) was fourth in her jumping competition.
"I couldn't have asked for better rides from our riders," said Arden. "Megan was in the zone for her flat class, and Samantha and Amy had such solid rides, you can't ask for more than that. Katarine Donohue has serious potential. She's one to watc this season, we'll se her at regionals for sure."
The Corsairs will return to action at Endicott's show next Sunday.
