Sailing Finishes Sixth at Boston College

DORCHESTER, MA-The UMass Dartmouth sailing team finished sixth in their meet at the Savin Hill Yacht Club, the home venue for Boston College, in Dorchester, MA, over the weekend. Dartmouth won the event with Tufts and Boston College finishing close behind. The teams from Harvard, New Hampshire, and UMass Dartmouth followed in that order.

"We struggled on Saturday in light airs, against outstanding competition, due to substituting our first line athletes," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "Academic pressures didn't allow us to be at our best. However, on Sunday we were at full strength and made significant improvements."

Jennings said that outstanding performances were turned in by Corsair senior captains Shawna Denn (Dracut, MA/Greater Lowell Tech HS), Michelle Guidotti (West Hartford, CT/Conard HS), and sophomores Bailey Rice (Southampton, MA/Hampshire Regional HS) and Julia Trudel (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS). Junior Paige Brown (Framingham, MA/Framingham HS) showed great improvement at the helm all day Saturday, and sophomore Emily Doiron (Arlington, MA/Arlington HS) had her best day of racing as well.

The Corsairs have continued to improve with every outing while sailing against nationally ranked teams. UMass Dartmouth will participate in their final regatta of the season next weekend in Newport, RI.
