CAMBRIDGE, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's sailing team made their 2013 season debut at the Toni Deutsch Regatta, hosted by MIT at the MIT Sailing Pavilion on the Charles River.
The Corsairs were represented by junior captains Julia Trudel (Lowell, MA/Lowell HS), Bailey Rice (Southampton, MA/Hampshire Regional HS), and Emily Doiron (Arlington, MA/Arlington HS). Sophomore Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) and freshman Kelsey DeLosh also contributed.
"We knew this was a very strong field, with many current and former United States Collegiate national champions, and we wanted to participate as a learning experience for our team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Jerry Jennings. "And that it was, in that we were able to finish all of the races, but trailed the field. The contest was won by Boston College, followed by MIT, Yale, Brown, and 2013 national champion Dartmouth. We were pleased to be part of the 17-team field, and reinforced with our athletes that doing your best in such a group is an honor."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Boston Harbor Invitational hosted by Boston College next weekend.
