NEWPORT, R.I. -- The freshman tandem of Kelsey Delosh (Boston, Mass.) and Courtney Grippin (Wilbraham, Mass.) powered the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sailing team this past weekend at the 22nd O'Toole Trophy Regatta, hosted by Salve Regina University. The Corsairs placed ninth overall with a combined score of 518.
Delosh and Grippin led wire-to-wire in Race No. 5 on Saturday to defeat the 18-boast field, outracing all the boats in the "A" and "B" Divisions, respectively. The duo was consistently in the hunt over the long program and finished sixth overall in the "B" Division.
In the "A" Division, skippers sophomore Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Hannah Baker (Harwich, Mass.) were aided by crew freshman Hanna Desilets (Little Compton, R.I.), classmate Angelica Brewer (Malden, Mass.), and captain Emily Doiron (Arlington, Mass.) as UMD entered variety of combinations to place ninth.
Brown University captured the team title with 211 points, followed by Salve Regina (228) and University of Rhode Island (229) in the nine-team field.
UMass Dartmouth will return to action on Saturday, April 26, when the Corsairs compete at the Mendums Pond Invitational, hosted by the University of New Hampshire.
