DURHAM, N.H. -- The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth sailing team placed six among eight team at the Mendum Pond Invitational, hosted by the University of New Hampshire.
The Corsairs registered 18 points in the "A" Division and 13 markers in the "B" Division for a combined total of 31 points. UMass Dartmouth defeated Holy Cross College and Amherst College, while Tufts University captured the team title.
The program was marred by poor weather on both days. Heavy rain and a lack of wind canceled the entire program on saturday, and a shortened regatta was sailed sunday.
The Corsairs duo of freshamn Kelsey DeLosh (Boston, Mass.) and Courtney Grippin (Wilbraham, Mass.) were in the mix again in a series of races. Moved up to "A" Division in the seasons finale, the rookie tandem were able to give UMass Dartmouth solid placement in the point totals.
Sophomore Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, Mass.) skippered the "B" Division boat in it's only race held. Due to lack of wind, the remainder of the program was cancelled and the sailors were unable to improve their standings.
