CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The UMass Dartmouth sailing team posted the program's top finish yet at an upper-level event on Saturday in the Central Series 3 regatta hosted by Harvard University. The Corsairs finished 10th in the 16-boat fleet with 125 points, sailing in six races in both the A and B divisions over the course of the day.
The teams battled very windy conditions, ranging from 2-8 knots. The Corsairs were led by three of the teams captains, senior Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, Mass.), junior Kelsey Delosh (Boston, Mass.) and junior Courtney Grippin (Wilbraham, Mass.) along with sophomore Alix Blair (Gloucester, Mass.) crewing for Martins in the A division. Delosh and Grippin had the best race of the day with a fifth place finish in the B division, however both Corsair boats had a number of top 10 finishes throughout the day.
The Corsairs were able to out-sail the University of Vermont (11th), Wesleyan (12th), Fairfield (13th), UMass Amherst (14th), the University of New Hampshire (15th) and the University of New England (16th). UMass Dartmouth will continue the spring season next weekend at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.
