Corsair Sailing Takes Eighth of 20 at Savin Hill

BOSTON - The UMass Dartmouth women's sailing team competed in the Savin Hill Central Series hosted by Boston College this past weekend.  For the third consecutive week, the Corsairs finished in the top 10 in a NEISA regatta.  UMass Dartmouth placed eighth in the 20 boat fleet, only seven points behind the top five schools, marking a new team high.

After coping with a postponement and eventual cancelation of racing on Saturday due to dangerous winds, the competitors enjoyed a beautiful day of racing on Sunday.  With the breeze staying in the 8-12mph range, the hosts were able to get six races off per division in the afternoon.

Captains Kelsey Delosh (Boston, Mass.) and Courtney Grippin (Wilbraham, Mass.) had a strong performance in the B division and were able to pull off fourth and fifth place finishes in their best two races of the day.  In the A division, senior captain Kelsey Martins (New Bedford, Mass.) and junior Phoung Pham (Haverhill, Mass.) finished in sixth place during their best race of the day but narrowly missed second with a last minute fowl going into a congested finish in the final race of the day.

The Corsairs will compete in their last competition of the spring season next Sunday at Mass Maritime.
