AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth bullpen allowed just one earned run over 4 2/3 innings, but Division I Bradley University scored eight runs in the opening two frames to cruise to a 10-0 victory over the Corsairs this morning at Mickey Etherton Stadium.
Freshman Ryan Britton (Milford, N.H.) limited the Braves (15-3) to just three hits in 2 2/3 scoreless innings of relief. The freshman from Milford, N.H. struck out a season-high five batters, including two hitters in the third. Junior Brett Handell (Westboro, Mass.) needed just 11 pitches to retire the side in order in the fourth, while freshman Benjamin Lodge (Blackstone, Mass.) set down both hitters he faced in the sixth.
The UMass Dartmouth offensive attack was stymied by its Division I opponent, recording just two hits. Senior George Agostini (Rehoboth, Mass.) broke up the no-hitter with a double down the right field line, while sophomore Taylor Cacciola (West Greenwich, R.I.) ripped a double to lead off the fifth.
Freshman Michael Theriault (Boston, Mass.) made his collegiate debut, allowing seven earned runs on six hits, while striking out two.
UMass Dartmouth (4-2) will return to action at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, when the Corsairs face regional rival Endicott College (1-4) at Pat Thomas Stadium.
