PAWTUCKET, R.I. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth baseball senior Sean Callahan (Colchester, Vt.) was recognized by the Little East Conference office on Monday, earning the team’s first Pitcher of the Week honor of the season following the Corsairs’ 3-1 week.
Callahan picked up his first LEC honor of the season as he pitched eight shutout innings en route to his first win of the season over Plymouth State on Saturday. The senior right-hander stifled his opposition, striking out seven and permitting just four hits as the Corsairs rolled to a 3-0 victory as part of Saturday’s doubleheader sweep.
Thus far on the season, Callahan has thrown 36.0 innings, striking out 39 batters compared to just three walks. His ERA of 2.75 is ranked third among starters in the conference, and his 9.75 strikeouts per nine innings ranks second.
UMass Dartmouth rose to 5-1 in LEC play on Saturday against the Panthers, and sit 17-11 overall through Monday’s victory over No. 7 Tufts. The Corsairs travel to Rhode Island College for a single game on Tuesday to continue conference competition.
