AUBURNDALE, FL-Senior right-hander Shane Campbell (Marlboro, MA/Marlboro HS) scattered eight hits over eight innings and senior designated hitter Zac Talis (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) and senior catcher Matt Ryan (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) each drove in three runs to lead the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team to a 7-3 victory over McDaniel on the second day of their 2011 spring trip Sunday at the Lake Myrtle Complex.
Ryan's two-run single and Talis' two-run double paced a five-run rally in the fifth inning that saw UMass Dartmouth break a 2-2 tie and take a 7-2 lead. Talis drove in the Corsairs' first run in the first inning with a single, while Ryan drove in a run in the third with a base hit.
Campbell earned the win, with senior right-hander Kyle Merrill (Dennis, MA/Dennis-Yarmouth HS) finishing up by pitching the ninth.
"We played better today, and it was good to see that," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "We're moving in the right direction."
The Corsairs improved to 2-1 with the victory, while the Green Terror dropped to 2-3 with the defeat. UMD will continue their spring trip when they play Suffolk Monday. McDaniel will play Stevens Monday.
