WINTER HAVEN, FL-Becker rallied for five runs in the seventh inning and went on to defeat the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team, 13-8, on the fifth day of their 2011 spring trip Wednesday at Chain O'Lakes Park.

The Corsairs took a 6-2 lead after five innings on the strength of a two-run double in the second inning by junior first baseman Anthony Fiorita (North Reading, MA/St. John's Prep), a two-run homer by sophomore right fielder Matt Worden (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) in the third, and a two-run double by junior center fielder Dan Demello (Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) in the fifth.

Cody Ewest's grand slam homer and a bases-loaded walk to Chris Flanders in the bottom of the fifth allowed the Hawks to take a 7-6 lead. Senior designated hitter Matt Ryan (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) tripled home a run and scored on Worden's infield grounder in the seventh to put UMD ahead, 8-7, but Ryan but the Corsairs came back to lead, 8-7, scoring once on an RBI double by senior catcher Matt Ryan (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS), before Becker rallied once more. Mike Marcello's single put the Hawks ahead for good.

Sophomore Mike St. Martin (Worcester, MA/Doherty HS) pitched the first five innings for UMD. Sophomore Tim Phillips (Uxbridge, MA/Uxbridge HS) took the loss in relief. D.J. Reed, the second of three pitchers for Becker, earned the win in relief.

"We were a little short on pitching today, and we didn't play well all the way around," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "We swung the bats, but we didn't get the pitching or play defense well enough to win. We walked too many people."

The Corsairs fell to 5-2 with the defeat, while the Hawks improved to 3-4. UMD will continue their spring trip when they play RPI Thursday. Becker will play Daniel Webster Friday.
