Baseball Picked Eighth In Little East Conference

Feb. 19, 2009

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team has been picked to finish in eighth place in the Little East Conference this spring.

The Corsairs, who finished eighth in the LEC last spring, received 11 points in the conference's annual pre-season coaches' poll. Southern Maine, which tied for second place last year, was picked to finish first, with five first-place votes and 61 points. Eastern Connecticut State, which tied with Southern Maine for second place last season, was picked to finish second, and Keene State, last year's regular season champion, was picked to finish third. Rhode Island College, UMass Boston, Western Connecticut State and Plymouth State were picked to finish next.

"It's kind of where I expected us to be," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "I think we can improve on that. We played a bunch of freshmen and sophomores last year, and they have plenty of experience, so, hopefully, we can cut down on the bad innings we seem to have offensively or defensively."

The Corsairs finished 5-32 last year and were 2-12 in the Little East Conference. They will open their 2009 season Saturday, March 14th against WPI as part of their spring trip to Florida.
