NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-Freshman pitcher Nick Fuller (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's baseball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Fuller has been named LEC Baseball Rookie of the Week.
Fuller allowed just one run in a pair of starts last week, posting a 2-0 record and a 0.77 earned run average. He pitched 11 2/3 innings, allowed six hits, and held opposing batters to a .150 batting average. He pitched 5 2/3 innings of shutout ball in a victory against Bridgewater State and held Brandeis to one run in six innings, while also making three starts in right field and driving in four runs. He hit a two-run double in the fourth inning of the first game of Saturday's doubleheader against Eastern Connecticut, a game the Corsairs won, 6-5 in 11 innings.
"It's a good honor for Nick, he deserves it," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Bob Curran. "This is kind of where we thought he would be, pitching-wise. He dominated both games he pitched, and came up with a big hit Saturday. He's coming on nicely for us."
The Corsairs are 20-15 overall and 7-5 in the Little East Conference and will return to action when they visit Johnson & Wales Tuesday.
