NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA– Plymouth State used an 11-0 run to
extend a six-point halftime lead and go on to a 69-40 victory over
host UMass Dartmouth in the second game of a Little East Conference
doubleheader at the Tripp Athletic Center Saturday. The Panthers
shot a blistering 64 percent from the floor in the second half.
Sophomore guard Alex Burt (Dover, NH/Dover HS) led PSU (4-14, 2-7 LEC) with a game-high 14 points. Junior guard Petey Skevas (Wethersfield, CT/Wethersfield HS) and senior guard Kevin Eisenberg (Moultonborough, NH/Moultonborough Academy) added 13 points apiece for Plymouth State.
UMD (3-15, 1-8 LEC) jumped out to a 13-6 lead after six-and-a-half minutes of play, but the Panthers used a 9-2 run to even the game at 15-15 with 6:51 to go in the first. Burt's layup with 1:14 remaining in the opening frame put PSU in front for good.
Junior forward Eleazar Clayton (Boston, MA/East Boston\Monroe CC) and sophomore guard Jake Laga (Northampton, MA/Northampton HS) each had eight points to highlight the Corsair scoring. Both also pulled down a team-high four rebounds apiece.
Plymouth State held an eleven-rebound advantage on the boards, 40-29, and shot 51.9 percent on the contest while limiting UMD to a 30.4 percent performance from the floor.
"I'm very disappointed in my team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste.
The Corsairs will return to action when they host Tufts next Tuesday evening in a non-conference clash. The Panthers host Granite State-rival Colby-Sawyer Tuesday.
