NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA - The second season begins Tuesday for the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team, as it will open the 2012-13 Little East Conference Tournament with a first round game at top-seeded Rhode Island College. Game time is 7:00 p.m. at the Murray Center.
The Corsairs enter the tournament as the eighth-seeded team, with a 5-20 overall record and a 2-12 conference mark. But both of their conference wins have come on the road, and lost twice to the Anchormen by a combined 11 points in their two regular season meetings. RIC is 22-3 overall, 13-1 in LEC play, and is 8-0 in games decided by six points or fewer. The Anchormen won, 70-64 at the Tripp Athletic Center January 15th, and took the rematch, 71-60, at the Murray Center February 5th.
"I like the matchup, and the fact that it is a short trip and anything can happen," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "We were in both games against RIC down to the last two and a half minutes, and the reason we lost is because we didn't make the plays and we didn't make the stops that we should have. We'll try to change that around, as some of our younger players are playing a little bit better, and making plays at the end of the game, as they did at Southern Maine the other day."
The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the LEC Final Four this weekend, which will be at Rhode Island College if the Anchormen win.
