Men's Basketball Drops Little East Decision To Keene State

DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Senior Ty Nichols (Springfield, Mass.) scored 23 points and dished out six assists as Keene State used a decisive 23-2 run over an eight minute stretch to post an 82-57 Little East Conference men’s basketball victory over UMass Dartmouth Saturday afternoon at the Tripp Athletic Center.

In a game that saw four ties and eight lead changes in the opening 17 minutes of action, the visiting Owls (13-7, 8-3 LEC) overcame late four-point first half deficit to take the lead for good on sophomore Miguel Prieto’s (Providence, R.I.) lay-in with 3:11 remaining in the half.  Freshman Adam Seablom’s (Lakeville, Mass.) lay-in 86 seconds later sliced the host Corsairs (13-6, 7-3 LEC) deficit to three with 1:45 to play, but Keene State grabbed a 33-26 advantage at the break and scored the first 12 points after intermission to seize control on a three-pointer by freshman Edwin Ezedonmwen (Dorchester, Mass.) just 2:54 into the second half.  The Owls shot 51 percent (31-61) from the floor overall and led by as much as 30 in the closing minutes of action to gain a split of the regular-season series.

Ezedonmwen added 19 points and five rebounds in the triumph for Keene State, which received 14 points and eight boards off the bench from sophomore James Anozie (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.).  Freshman Paul Mahon (Franklin, Mass.) added nine points in the win for the visitors, who connected for 10 three-pointers and scored all 18 fast break points between the squads on the afternoon.

Freshman Marcus Azor (Brockton, Mass.) scored 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in the setback for UMass Dartmouth, which received nine points from Seablom along with eight points and 10 boards from sophomore Harry Alexander (Washington, D.C.).  Senior Arinze Obiora (Hyde Park, Mass.) collected eight points and six caroms for the Corsairs, who shot 29 percent (18-63) from the field and held a 19-10 scoring edge at the foul line for the contest.

UMass Dartmouth travels to Danbury, Conn. on Wednesday evening to take on Western Connecticut in a Little East Conference encounter that tips-off at 7:30 pm, while Keene State hosts Plymouth State in a Little East match-up on Wednesday evening in Keene, N.H. that also tips-off at 7:30 pm.
