NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the second week in a row, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior forward Brandon Stephens (Dorchester, MA/Newton North HS) has been named Little East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the second year in a row that Stephens has been so honored.
Stephens averaged 27.5 points and five rebounds per game last week to help lead UMass Dartmouth to a pair of Little East Conference wins. He made 23 of 38 shots from the field for 60.5 per cent, and connected on five of eight shots from three-point range. Stephens scored a career high 32 points in last Tuesday night's win at UMass Boston, and added 23 in Saturday's victory against Plymouth State. In two and a half years at UMass Dartmouth, Stephens has 992 points, and should be the next Corsair to join the 1000 Point Club.
"Brandon has played well all season long, and he is definitely deserving of this award," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "He is a model of consistency for our team. He comes to work and plays hard every practice and every game."
The Corsairs are 12-5 overall, 5-2 in the LEC. They will return to action when they visit Rhode Island College in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.
