NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the third time this season, a member of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team has been honored by the Little East Conference.
Junior forward Brandon Shelton (Cambridge, MA/Cambridge Rindge & Latin HS/UMass Lowell) has been named Little East Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week. It's the second time this season that Shelton has been so honored.
Shelton averaged 22.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game as the Corsairs split a pair of Little East Conference games last week. He made 42.3 per cent of his shots from the field and was seven for 12 from three-point range for 58.3 per cent.
Shelton led the Corsairs with 26 points in Saturday's 84-78 win at Western Connecticut State, making a critical free throw with 34 seconds remaining and UMass Dartmouth ahead by a single point. He scored 19 points against Rhode Island College last Tuesday night, and added seven assists and three steals in the two games.
"Brandon has been playing extremely well, ever since the first couple of games this season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "For someone who didn't play at all, he's playing extremely well."
The Corsairs are 14-2 overall, 6-1 in the LEC. They will return to action when they visit UMass Boston in the first game of a Little East Conference doubleheader Tuesday evening.
