Men's Basketball 18th in Poll

Jan. 28, 2009

MINNEAPOLIS, MN-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team fell a few spots this week in the latest men's basketball poll, dropping to 18th as they get ready for a showdown with another top team Thursday evening.

The Corsairs will play Salem State Thursday evening at the Tripp Athletic Center. The Corsairs are 15-2, and the Vikings are 15-3 and have been receiving votes in the poll all season.

"I like the fact that we're ranked, it gives us some publicity and helps with recruiting," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "When the NCAA poll comes out, we'll have a better idea of how we're viewed in the eyes of the NCAA committee."

Salem State has won nine of their last 10 games, losing to Bridgewater State last Saturday. "They're similar to us, and they have a little more size. They have a lot of talent. We're going to get the ball up and down the floor. They probably play that game better than most teams we play, but it's what we do best."

After Thursday night's game, the Corsairs will return to action Saturday at Southern Maine in the second game of a Little East Conference doubleheader.
