KINGSTON, RI-University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball Head Coach Brian Baptiste will receive a prestigious honor this fall.
Baptiste has been chosen to be inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame.
Baptiste will be formally inducted at a ceremony set for October 9th at the Mohegan Sun Casino. The honor was announced by the Institute for International Sport.
"I was surprised, and I was honored when I got the call, an d they told me that they had selected me" said Baptiste. "I'm very excited. The Corsairs finished second in the Little East Conference during the regular season, and won the conference tournament, earning an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. It marked the 17th time in 26 seasons that Baptiste's teams have qualified for post-season play. They have made 13 appearances in the NCAA Division III Tournament, won 13 Little East Conference regular season championships, and captured 11 post-season playoff titles in the 21-year history of the conference.
A 1976 graduate of American International, Baptiste enjoyed an outstanding playing career following his graduation from New Bedford High School.
