Nov. 14, 2011
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's basketball team has been picked to tie for fourth place in the Little East Conference this season.
The Corsairs received 41 points in the pre-season coaches' poll, tying them for fourth place with Eastern Connecticut State.
Rhode Island College was picked to finish first. They received four of the eight first-place votes, and 57 points. Keene State received three first-place votes and 51 points, while Western Connecticut State received the other firs place vote and 47 points. Trailing the Corsairs were UMass Boston, Southern Maine and Plymouth State.
"I figured that's where we would be picked, because that's where we finished up last year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "We brought in some new recruits,. but they're untested and you never know how it's going to work out. I think that's probably a logical place to put us in the pre-season poll. I am surprised that RIC was first, I thought that Keene or Western Connecticut would be first."
The Corsairs begin their 2011-12 season at Salem State Tuesday evening.
