Men's Basketball Picked to Finish First in LEC
Nov. 18, 2009
NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the first time in seven seasons, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's basketball team has been picked to finish first in the Little East Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs received 62 points and six of the eight first-place votes in the balloting by LEC Coaches. Rhode Island College received the other two first-place votes and was second with 51 points.
"I can understand why we were picked first," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Brian Baptiste. "We have four out of five returning starters, and I thought that it was reasonable that we would be picked first because of our returning situation. RIC lost a lot of veterans from last year's team, but (Head Coach) Bob (Walsh) does a good job recruiting. I thought that Eastern Connecticut, Western Connecticut and Plymouth State would be ranked high, because they all return four or five starters from last year's team."
The Corsairs are 1-0 and will return to action when they host the Hampton Inn Classic at the Tripp Athletic Center this weekend.
