Aborishade, Barneys Honored By MASCAC

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. – University of Massachusetts Dartmouth freshman quarterback Trent Barneys (Avenel, N.J.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Rookie of the Week for his performance in leading the Corsairs to a 38-14 victory over visiting Plymouth State University on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore wide receiver Abiola Aborishade (Attleboro, Mass.) earned a spot on the conference's honor roll.

Barneys piloted an UMass Dartmouth attack that produced a total of 566 yards of offense. The rookie signal caller recorded his first career 100-yard game, rushing for 113 yards on just 10 carries. Barneys, who entered the Corsairs lineup on their second possession, generated the hosts' first scoring opportunity with 71 yards on the ground, including a 48-yard scamper. He recorded his first collegiate touchdown with a two-yard plunge in the third quarter to provide UMass Dartmouth with a 24-0 lead. Barneys was also 1-for-2 with 15 passing yards.

Aborishade sparked the Corsair offense with 137 yards and two touchdowns. The wide receiver from Attleboro, Mass. hauled a team-high six receptions for 44 yards, while also breaking a 93-yard run. On UMass Dartmouth's second drive, Aborishade eluded a defender and raced 10 yards down the right sideline to earn his team-leading third touchdown of the season. Less than three minutes later, he registered the longest run by a MASCAC student-athlete this year, racing 93 yards to pay dirt. Aborishade was also prominent in the return game, averaging 19.7 yards per kickoff.
