NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. - The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Football team hopes to build off their first Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) win as they visit Framingham State on Saturday at 1pm.
UMass Dartmouth (1-2, 1-1 MASCAC) is coming off their first MASCAC win after defeating Plymouth State 38-14 on homecoming weekend. The Corsair offense racked up a total 566 yards of total offense, 466 of which were on the ground.
Two UMass Dartmouth players were recognized by the MASCAC for their past week performances. Freshman quarterback Trent Barneys (Avenel, N.J./Colonia) earned MASCAC Rookie of the Week honors after rushing for 113 yards on ten carries and leading a Corsair offense to a season-high in total yards. Sophomore wide receiver Abiola Aborishade (Attleboro, Mass./Attleboro) was on the conference honor roll for grabbing six passes for 44 yards and a touchdown, as well as a 93 yard rushing touchdown.
Framingham State (3-1, 2-0 MASCAC) comes into Saturdays contest tied at the top of the MASCA standings with Bridgewater State. Last year's New England Football Conference champions narrowly walked away with a 14-12 victory against Western Connecticut State this past Saturday.
Senior running back Melikke Van Alstyne (Salem, Mass./Salem) recorded 105 rushing yards and one score, including a phenomenal feat of eclipsing 5,000 career rushing yards. This season, Van Alstyne leads the MASCAC with 58 rushing attempts and 297 total rushing yards. Also, he ranks second with 143.5 yards per game.
UMass Dartmouth returns home on Friday Oct. 11th when they host MASCAC opponent Bridgewater State at Cressy Field.
