DARTMOUTH, Mass. – UMass Dartmouth assistant football coaches Ryan Struthers and Josh Sylvester have been selected to the coaching staff for USA Football’s Under-18 Select Team as the squad will compete in International Bowl VIII on Tuesday, Jan. 17 against Team Ontario.
The Under-18 Select Team features the top high school players in the nation representing their country against football players from around the globe. International Bowl VIII consists of four games across a variety of age groups, with all games scheduled to take place at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, home of the Dallas Cowboys. The Under-18 Select game will be broadcast live on ESPN 3 at 4 p.m. central time.
Sylvester, UMass Dartmouth’s offensive coordinator, will serve in the same capacity for Team USA while Struthers will coach the wide receivers. Team USA’s head coach for the bowl is Division I Wagner College’s Vince DiGaetano.
This past season, Struthers and Sylvester were key in coordinating the Corsairs’ most productive offensive season in program history. UMass Dartmouth set a new program record with 4, 641 total yards offense, including 2,879 rushing yards and 1,762 yards in the air. Three Corsair running backs surpassed 500 rushing yards on the season, and senior offensive lineman Pat Sullivan became just the program’s second All-American as recognized by both the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and D3football.com.
