UMass Dartmouth sophomore defensive back Jacob Burkhead was named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Geico Football Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Corsairs’ 41-27 victory over Worcester State last Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
Burkhead, a native of Plymouth, Mass. and a graduate of Plymouth North High School, recorded a pair of first quarter interceptions to go with three total tackles and a pair of pass break-ups on the day, as he leads UMass Dartmouth with 49 total tackles (35 solo) to date. Jacob doubled his interception total for the fall with his two picks against the Lancers, and he also leads the Corsairs with seven pass break-ups on the year.
Head Coach Mark Robichaud’s squad, which stands at 4-3 overall and 3-2 in MASCAC play, heads to Framingham, Mass. for a league clash with Framingham State on Saturday, October 27th that kicks off at Noon EDT.
