UMass Dartmouth freshman running back Devante Greaves has been named as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Geico Football Co-Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week for his efforts in the Corsairs’ 41-27 victory over Worcester State last Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.
Greaves, a native of Raynham, Mass. and a graduate of Bridgewater-Raynham Regional High School, rushed for 237 yards on 30 carries (7.9 yards per attempt) and scored four touchdowns on runs of 3, 6, 11 and one yards in his first career start. Devante accounted for 64 percent of UMass Dartmouth’s 368 rushing yards on the day, and his only rush for a loss (two yards) came on his 29th carry of the contest.
Greaves, who shared the Offensive Player of the Week accolade with Western Connecticut’s Kyle McKinnon, leads the Corsairs with 381 rushing yards on the season, as his performance in the Homecoming triumph against the Lancers increased his touchdown total to five on the fall.
Head Coach Mark Robichaud’s squad, which stands at 4-3 overall and 3-2 in MASCAC play, heads to Framingham, Mass. for a league clash with Framingham State on Saturday, October 27th that kicks off at Noon EDT.
