Dartmouth, Mass. -- UMass Dartmouth senior center Antonio Mitjans is one of 31 student-athletes to be named to the prestigious 2018 New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England team that was announced late Monday. Mitjans is one of six Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference honorees on this year’s squad, which is represented by 22 different teams across the region.
A native of Ashland, Mass. and a graduate of Ashland High School, Mitjans was named as the 2018 MASCAC Offensive Lineman of the Year after anchoring a Corsair unit that averaged 412 yards of total offense and nearly 28 points per game. A two-year team co-captain, Antonio is a three-time first-team all-MASCAC selection, and during the course of his career he helped UMass Dartmouth amass nearly 17,000 yards of total offense, score 153 total touchdowns and average nearly 28 points per outing.
Mitjans becomes the third straight Corsair to earn all-New England accolades, joining fellow offensive lineman Pat Sullivan ’17 and linebacker Marvey Mathurin ’18. Antonio will be honored at the 2018 NEFW All-Star Banquet on Thursday, December 6th at Rosario Restaurant & Function Facility in Saugus, Mass.
Head Coach Mark Robichaud’s squad posted an overall mark of 5-5 during the 2018 campaign, including a 4-4 slate in MASCAC action.
