BRIDGEWATER, MA-Dave Leombruno's 37-yard field goal with six seconds remaining lifted host Bridgewater State to a 10-7 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's football team in a non-conference game at Bridgewater-Raynham High School Saturday afternoon.

The Bears scored all 10 of their points in the fourth quarter after UMD had taken a 7-0 halftime lead.

The Corsairs jumped ahead in the second quarter capping a 47-yard, seven-play drive with a three-yard scoring pass from sophomore quarterback Patrick Orlando (Manchester, MA/Essex HS/Saint Anselm) to sophomore wide receiver Joe Luiz (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford HS) from three yards out to take a 7-0 lead with 3:26 remaining in the first half. Sophomore defensive back Darrien Furr (East Taunton, MA/Taunton HS) set up the scoring drive when he intercepted a pass from BSU quarterback Mike McCarthy at his own goal line and returned it 38 yards. A penalty against the Bears allowed UMD to begin their march from the BSU side of midfield.

Bridgewater State began their comeback when they took over at their own 42 yard line with 3:05 left in the third quarter. They drove 58 yards in 16 plays, all of them on the ground, to tie the score, with Justin Fuller going over from the three-yard line with 10:33 to play.

After an exchange of punts, BSU began their decisive drive at their own nine yard with 4:15 to play. The Bears drove 71 yards in 13 plays to the Corsair 20, and Leombruno's kick split the uprights with his kick into the wind with six seconds left.

"Our defense played well all game, and the time of possession was heavily in their favor, so they really had to work hard," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "Darrien Furr made a great play on his interception, and he saved a touchdown. I thought we'd be able to do a little bit more offensively, but they did a nice job to adjust to what we did. It was disappointing to lose, it was a tough game and Bridgewater is a good team."

The Bears out gained UMD, 248 yards to 92 on the ground and 270 yards to 185 overall. Freshman running back Jaron Hargrove (West Roxbury, MA/Concord-Carlisle HS) led UMD on the ground with 32 yards on nine carries, Orlando was 14 of 27 for 93 yards, and Luiz caught three passes. Fuller ran 25 times for 124 yards for BSU, while McCarthy gained 96 yards on the ground.

Defensively, sophomore defensive lineman Ben Mitsmenn (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich HS/Exeter) led UMD with nine tackles, including eight solos, a tackle for lost yardage and a forced fumble Junior linebacker John Cordasco (Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls HS) added eight stops, including three solos. Kevin Donahue led the Bears with seven tackles.

The Corsairs fell to 1-1 with the defeat, while the Bears improved to 2-0 with the victory. UMass Dartmouth will visit Maine Maritime next Saturday, while Bridgewater State will host Plymouth State.
