NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's football team has been picked to finish eighth in the Boyd Division in the second annual New England Football Conference pre-season poll.
The Corsairs were ranked behind MIT. For the second year in a row, Curry got six first place votes in the Boyd poll, with PSU and Endicott each receiving one first place vote. In the Bogan Division, Maine Maritime, which was picked to finish first, received five first place votes, while Bridgewater State, which was picked second, received the other three. The Colonels also received 11 of the 16 pre-season votes as league champion, with PSU and Maine Maritime receiving two each and Bridgewater receiving one.
"Coming off an 0-10 season, I was not surprised to see us picked at the bottom of the conference," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "With the team we have right now, we are very anxious to prove peoplewrong. We're having an excellent camp, and we're totally focused on getting a win on September 4th."
Robichaud was in agreement with the teams picked to lead the conference. "Curry is picked first on our side of the division, and that's to be expected, since they've arguably been the best program in the NEFC for several years," said Robichaud. "Plymouth State, the number two team on our side, is an excellent program. The top two teams in the Bogan Division, Maine Maritime and Bridgewater State, are also on our schedule."
This year's UMD schedule includes every team that received a first place vote in the poll. The Corsairs begin their 2010 season at home against Fitchburg State Saturday, September 4th at 12 noon.
