BOSTON, MA-Sophomore defensive lineman Ben Mitsmenn (West Greenwich, RI/West Greenwich HS/ Exeter) of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth football team has been honored by the New England Football Conference.
Mitsmenn was named NEFC Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against MIT last Saturday.
Mitsmenn had 11 tackles, including five solo stops against the Engineers. He had a sack, one and a half tackles for lost yardage, and an interception and a 22-yard return to the MIT 13-yard line to set up the first score of the game, a two-yard run by senior running back Eric Pacy (Rowley, MA/Triton HS/Salve Regina Dean) that gave the Corsairs a 7-0 first quarter lead. UMass Dartmouth broke a three-game losing streak by defeating MIT, 14-6.
"Ben had an absolutely outstanding game, he has played very well the entire year," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "Against MIT he was dominant, with 11 tackles, a huge sack, and his interception that set up our first score. He was a very key part of an outstanding defensive day."
UMass Dartmouth will return to action when they host Salve Regina Saturday evening.
