Football Visits Endicott Saturday

Oct. 21, 2011

NORTH DARTMOUTH, MA-For the third time this season, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's football team will play on the road this weekend. The Corsairs will visit the first place team in the New England Football Conference Boyd Division, Endicott. Kickoff at Endicott Stadium is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

The Corsairs come into Saturday's game with a 4-3 record, are 3-1 in the Boyd Division and are coming off a 21-6 victory over Nichols last Saturday. Endicott, which defeated Plymouth State last Saturday, 49-0, is 4-0 in division play and 7-0 overall, is the only undefeated team in the NEFC, and hasn't lost since dropping a 49-35 decision at Cortland State in the first round of the NCAA Division III Championships last season.

"Endicott is an outstanding team," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Mark Robichaud. "They are leading the conference in most offensive and defensive categories, they have a lot of seniors who are starting, and they have one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Phil Konopka, one of the best running backs in Mike Lane and one of the best defensive players in Kevin Eagan."

The Gulls average 45 points per game and yield just 11.7, and have won nine consecutive games at home since losing to Rensselaer, 6-3, on September 11, 2010.

"Our defense has played well this year, they've been the strength of our team," said Robichaud. "We need them to continue to play well against Endicott. Endicott has a lot of talent and a lot of experience; they are able to move the ball both on the ground and in the air. We have to try to limit them as much as we can and avoid giving up big plays."

The Corsairs are also looking for a strong performance from their offense. "We want to move the ball, win the time of possession battle, and keep their offense off the field as much as we can. In order to be successful, we will have to avoid mistakes, play error-free football and avoid turning the ball over. We will have to play our best game of the season."

UMass Dartmouth will play at Curry next weekend and return home for their final regular season game against Western New England November 5th.
