SUTTON, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 337 and finished seventh at the 15-team Worcester State Invitational at the par-72 Blackstone National Golf Club Tuesday.
The Corsairs finished one stroke behind Anna Maria, two strokes behind Elms and five shots in back of Endicott. Salem State finished first at 312.
For the Corsairs, sophomore Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) shot an 81 and tied for 11th, seniors Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) and Matt Baird (Stoughton, MA/Coyle & Cassidy HS) each shot 84 and tied for 23rd, junior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) shot 88 and tied for 45th, and sophomore Ryan Benton (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) shot 89 and tied for 47th.
"We still haven't played 18 complete holes of golf, and it is showing in our team score," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We had some bad holes, and you can't focus on a bad shot or a bad hole when you're out there. We did have some good efforts on a very difficult golf course. The greens were quick and it was very hilly, and there probably weren't more than a handful of people who broke 80."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Western New England Invitational Thursday.
