Golfers Ninth After First Day at Johnson & Wales
CRANSTON, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 329 and is in ninth place after the first day of play at the two-day, 14-team Johnson & Wales Invitational at the par-71 Cranston Country Club Saturday.
For UMass Dartmouth, senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) shot an 80 and is tied for 22nd, junior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) came in at 81 and is tied for 28th, senior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) and sophomore Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) each shot 84 and are tied for 40th, and junior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) came in at 86 and is tied for 47th.
"It's been a common theme this spring, we haven't been able to put 18 holes together," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We've had some good play in spurts, but there is a lack of focus at times, and that leads to big numbers and that can't happen."
The tournament will conclude Sunday.
