Men's Golf Tied for 15th After 1st Day at Duke Nelson
MIDDLEBURY, VT-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's golf team is tied for 15th place in a 24-team field after the first day of action Saturday at their season-opening tournament, the Duke Nelson Invitational at Middlebury's par-71 Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
The Corsairs shot a team score of 325 and are tied with Tufts. Williams leads the field at 298.
Senior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) led the Corsairs with a 78, junior Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) came in at 80, junior Ryan Benton (Whitman, MA/Whitman-Hanson HS) shot an 83, junior Pete Danko (Norton, MA/Norton HS/Massachusetts) shot 84 and junior Brandon Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) finished at 85.
"We struggled with our short game," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We had a tough time making adjustments, and we'll need to come back tomorrow and make those adjustments in order to be able to move up the ladder."
The tournament will conclude Sunday.
