GORHAM, ME-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's golf team shot a team score of 301 and is in fourth place in an 11-team field after the first day of action Sunday at the Southern Maine Invitational at the par-71 Gorham Country Club.
Husson is in first place with a score of 293.
For the Corsairs, junior Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) led the way with a one-over par 72. Junior Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/Old Rochester Regional HS) and senior Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) each shot 76, junior Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) finished with a 77 and senior George Gillmore (Cotuit, MA/Barnstable HS/Fairfield) came in at 80.
"The score is a confidence booster, and the course is one that you can score well on," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "You need to have all five people in the 70s. We left some shots out there, we must have missed a dozen three-foot putts, and you have to make those in order to compete. All in all, it was a good effort; however, I think we can shoot better than we did today."
The tournament will conclude Monday.
