Men's Golf in 29th Place at NEIGA Championship
BREWSTER, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men's golf team sits in 29th place after the first round action of the 79th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship at The Captains Course.
UMass Dartmouth combined for a first round score of 332. The Corsairs were led by senior Peter Danko (Norton, Mass.) who shot 10 over par in the round. Danko's score of an 82 earned him a share of 97th place on the individual leader board. Seniors Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, Mass.) and Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, Mass.) each shot 11 over par, while sophomores Sean Griffith (Bourne, Mass.) and Colin Campbell (Marlborough, Mass.) scored an 85 and a 105 on the day.
Central Connecticut State University holds the advantage heading into the second day of competition. The Blue Devils scored a 288, paring the course, primarily due to the impressive performance of junior Monte Mullen (Manchester, Conn.). Mullen holds a one shot advantage after scoring a 72 in round one. The University of Rhode Island finished in second place with a score of 297 and Bryant University finished in third with a score of 298.
UMass Dartmouth looks to make up ground on the field in round two of competition, which tees off tomorrow morning.
