How it Happened
Byron finished with a two-day score of 156 (+12) for the tournament, jumpstarted with a round of 76 (+4) in Friday's first 18 holes. That mark tied for the second-lowest individual score for the first round, as blustery conditions kept sub-80 scores at a minimum. With a team total of 319 following Friday's competition, UMass Dartmouth held fourth place heading into the second round.
Byron was again the low man for the Corsairs Saturday, shooting 80 (+8) to lead the Corsairs' cumulative score of 329 on the day. Sophomore Jackson Mitchell (Marion, Mass.) put forth back-to-back rounds of 82 (164 overall) and was the Corsairs' second-lowest scorer on Saturday.
Junior Jared Fadding (Lenox, Mass.) finished closely behind Byron on Friday, posting 80, and classmate Bryce Mitchell (Beverly, Mass.) turned in a score of 81. On Saturday, Fadding shot a round of 83 to close the tournament at 163, while Mitchell wrapped up his weekend at 90 to score in at 171. The final Corsair in the scoring pairs, freshman Nick Avilla (Westport, Mass.), generated back-to-back days at 84 to finish at 168.
Junior Nick Lombardo (Medway, Mass.) and freshman Jon Soule (North Easton, Mass.) both competed as individuals for UMass Dartmouth. Soule turned in a solid round of 82 on Friday and turned in 89 on Saturday, while Lombardo shot 84 in the first round and 85 in the second.
