OSSINING, NY-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 321 and on the second and final day of action at the 36-hole, NYU/Manhattanville Invitational at the Hudson Hills Golf Course Sunday. The Corsairs' two-day total of 656 placed them ninth in the 10-team field. UMass Dartmouth shot 335 for the first round, which began Saturday, was suspended due to darkness and was completed Sunday.
Freshman Joe Connor (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot scores of 78 and 75 for a total of 153 and tied for seventh. Freshman Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot 88-76 for 164 and tied for 30th, sophomore Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot 81-84 for 165 and tied for 37th, junior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot 88-86 for 174 and finished 52nd, and sophomore Dan DeSantis (Pembroke, MA/Pembroke HS) shot 105-89 for 194 and tied for 58th.
"It was a difficult weekend, the course was probably the hardest course we've played all fall," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We had to fight darkness on Saturday, and some people were probably rushing to try to finish before it got dark. Sunday, we had to get up at the crack of dawn and finish our round and then play the second round. Tournaments like this were we play against good teams are invaluable in helping us improve. Joe Connor did a nice job and Nick Jagoe came back after a slow start Saturday and played better on Sunday."
The Corsairs will participate in the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association championships next Monday and Tuesday at Brewster.
