"While we may have dropped a couple of places in the standings, our team goal is play better the next round, and we accomplished our goal," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "Each member of our team either shot the same or better today, and we picked up 12 shots on day two. I thought we had great performances from Nick Jagoe, who was very consistent; from Matt Connolly, who was outstanding for his first collegiate start; and for John Coucci, who played well as an individual. He had a couple of big numbers on the course that hurt his score. For our team to finish fifth in as strong a field as we had as well as to play better on the second day is outstanding."
The tournament was a success. "Congratulations to Pat Pio, the medalist, 148 is a phenomenal score, as well as the team champions, Elms College, who put together two impressive rounds," said Baptista. "We had a strong field, an outstanding venue at Allendale, and a great corporate sponsor in the Hampton Inn." The Corsairs will return to action at the Western New England Invitational Thursday.
