STOW, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth men’s golf team finished third in a six-team field the Jack Barry Invitational at the Stow Acres Country Club Saturday.
The Corsairs shot a team score of 321, placing them four strokes behind UMass Lowell. Johnson & Wales (FL) finished first at 302. Trailing UMass Dartmouth were the other three NCAA Division III schools in the field-Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at 336, host MIT at 339, and Wentworth at 345.
For UMass Dartmouth, freshman Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot a 74 and tied for second, one stroke behind the medalist, Kyle Slattery of JWU. Senior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) and sophomore Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) each shot 81 and tied for 10th, freshman Joe Connor (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) came in at 85 and finished 15th, and senior John Ripp (Bolton, CT/East Catholic HS) shot an 86 and was 16th.
“As a team, we played great,” said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. “We held our own today, and that was our second best score of the spring. Nick Jagoe has had an unbelievable spring. Playing with Johnson & Wales’ number one, who is an outstanding golfer, Nick held his own the first time he saw the course, with four birdies. Scott Woodacre had another solid round, and Rob Leaver shot one over on the back side. We had a lot of positives to take out of our performance. We hope everyone will work on their game over the summer, and come back ready for the fall.”
The competition was the final action of the season for the Corsairs.
