HALIFAX, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team shot a team score of 336 and finished first in a four-team field at the Leopard Spring Open, hosted by Wentworth at the Country Club of Halifax Monday afternoon.
The Corsairs' score placed them two strokes ahead of Rhode Island College, 14 strokes ahead of Wentworth and 28 shots in front of Anna Maria.
Sophomore Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) led the Corsairs, finishing third with a score of 82. He was four strokes behind the medalist, Kyle Harper of Rhode Island College. Junior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot an 84 and finished fifth, sophomore Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) and freshman Kevin Rewinski (West Springfield, MA/West Springfield HS) each shot an 85 and tied for sixth, and freshman Conor O'Malley (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) shot a 91 and finished 15th.
"It's a nice way to cap the season," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "While we didn't play our best golf, the pin placement was difficult, and our team fought through it and put together a score that was good enough to win. There was no quit in them, whether they had a bad hole or a three-putt, they stayed with it."
Rewinski filled in admirably. "Kevin found out Saturday that he was going to be playing, and this was really his first collegiate tournament," said Baptista. "His score was the difference today. It was great for him, and, hopefully, he can build on this going forward into the summer and into the fall."
The tournament was the final action of the season for the Corsairs.
