PROVIDENCE, RI-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth’s men’s golf team shot a team score of 312 and won their second consecutive tournament, finishing first at the Rhode Island College Invitational at the par- 72 Triggs Memorial Golf Course Friday. Junior Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) of the Corsairs was the medalist.
The Corsairs, who finished first Monday at the Johnson & Wales Match Play Invitational last weekend, finished eight strokes ahead of the RIC Maroon team in the 10-team field. Nichols was third with a score of 325, followed by Anna Maria at 326, Worcester State and Johnson & Wales at 332, Suffolk at 333, the RIC Black team at 355, Emmanuel at 366 and Wentworth at 371.
Jagoe finished first with a two-over par 74. Sophomore Matt Connolly (Lynnfield, MA/Lynnfield HS) shot a 77 and tied for fourth, sophomore Brandon Oldham (Mattapoisett, MA/ORR/Allegheny College/Bristol CC) came in at 79 and tied for 6th, and freshmen Billy Guilford (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake Regional HS) and Brendan Kelleher (Hopedale, MA/Hopedale HS) each finished at 82 and tied for 13th.
"I'm happy for the team, it's a good win, and they all played well today," said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We've been having real good practices, and the results are showing on the golf course. Brendan Kelleher had a great score for his first collegiate start, Matt Connolly has been solid every time he's been in the lineup, and Nick Jagoe is hitting the ball well and has a lot of confidence, and the rest of the teams feeds off that, and it gives them confidence. We need to keep moving forward, and, hopefully, we'll have some good results."
The Corsairs will return to action at the Nichols Fall Invitational Sunday.
