BREWSTER, MA-The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth's men's golf team is in ninth place among a 21-team Division III field after the first day of action at the two-day New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships on the Starboard Course at The Captain's Golf Course on Monday.
The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championships have 44 teams participating, including teams from NCAA Divisions I and II. UMass Dartmouth ended the day 24th overall.
The Corsairs shot a team score of 327 Dartmouth is first at 291. Salem State had the best score among Division III schools, tying for fifth at 304.
Junior Matt Munden (Brockton, MA/Brockton HS) and freshman Connor O'Malley (Holliston, MA/Holliston HS) led the Corsairs, shooting scores of 80 and tying for 71st. Sophomore Nick Jagoe (Westport, MA/Westport HS) shot an 83 and tied for 107th, senior Rob Leaver (Lakeville, MA/Apponequet HS) shot an 84 and tied for 118th, and junior Scott Woodacre (Westborough, MA/Westborough HS) shot an 85 and tied for 125th.
"We left a lot of shots on the course." said UMass Dartmouth Head Coach Joel Baptista. "We didn't putt very well today. I was very pleased with Connor's round, he came down here well-prepared, had a good week of practice and it showed. Between Connor's round and Matt's round today, hopefully, it will keep us in the hunt."
The tournament will conclude Tuesday.
